The Chair of School Education with a Focus on Educational Governance and Educational Change warmly welcomes Elizabeth A. Zumpe to the Institute for Education.

As a Visiting Professor with Prof. Dr. Nina Bremm at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg during September 2024, Ass. Prof. Dr. Zumpe seeks to learn through a comparative perspective about how to productively organize research-practice partnerships (RPPs) and utilize methods of design-based problems solving to foster collective agency for improvement in schools serving disadvantaged communities. For this purpose, she will intensively consult with and learn from Prof. Dr. Bremm’s project, Designbasierte Schulentwicklung (DBSE) in Berlin.

Elizabeth A. Zumpe is an Assistant Professor of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University at Oklahoma. She teaches courses in instructional leadership, qualitative research, continuous quality improvement in education, and administrative and organizational theory. As an improvement-focused scholar, Ass. Prof. Dr. Zumpe conducts qualitative, action, and design-based research within RPPs in high-poverty districts to understand how to cultivate collective agency and problem solving mindsets for continuous improvement.

She was a contributing author to the book, Design-based School Improvement (Harvard Education Press, 2016), and her work has been published in the American Journal of Education, Journal of Educational Change, Frontiers in Education, and School Administrator.

During her stay, she will also share insights from her research in a keynote lecture at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg KBBB-Jahrestagung (Kommission Bildungsorganisation, Bildungsplanung, Bildungsrecht).
